In October 2019 the Queensland government announced its support for a new $39 million greyhound racing track at Ipswich - the Greater Brisbane Greyhound Centre. Construction is expected to start in 2022 with first races to be held by the end of 2023 if this track goes ahead.
We have been at the forefront of exposing the cruelty of the greyhound racing for several years.
In 2014 we fought with the local community and allies to stop the proposed track at Slacks Creek, Logan. And we won! The site is now being developed as a PCYC where children and the local community can benefit.
In 2015, together with Animals Australia, we exposed the horrors of live baiting to the nation. This ground-breaking exposé triggered a huge response from the public as well as the government with inquiries launched in almost every state and territory and calls for the industry to be banned.
Despite the cruel training methods, the high rate of "wastage" (overbreeding and killing of healthy greyhounds), the high number of racing injuries and deaths (65 greyhounds killed due to race injuries in 2019), the industry and government are pushing ahead with a new track without even consulting with Queenslanders or the local Ipswich community.
